One of Lancashire’s most famous hotels is offering a stay for a lucky reader
Some hotels are there to serve the purpose of somewhere comfortable to stay, others are exciting destinations designed to lift the spirits and inspire. The Midland in Morecambe, an internationally renowned art-deco classic hotel and an architectural gem, certainly falls into the latter category.
So Lancashire Life has teamed-up with English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, which run the hotel, to offer one lucky reader the chance to win a stay for two at The Midland.
Morecambe’s modernist masterpiece, which recently won the 2017 Lancashire Tourism Large Hotel of the Year Award, has regained its rightful place as one of the best places to stay and enjoy the stunning views over Morecambe Bay.
Originally built in a single year and opening in 1933, The Midland has a wonderful past steeped in local history. It was originally commissioned to replace the old Victorian railway hotel and was designed to look like an ocean liner. In its heyday the hotel was frequented by the likes of Noel Coward, Laurence Olivier, Wallace Simpson and Coco Chanel.
The aim when The Midland re-opened ten years ago was to ensure that everything that had made it so special in its glamorous heyday was restored and reinvented for a new generation. Its rooms are contemporary, some with seafront balconies and offering stunning sunset views over Morecambe Bay.
The Midland is also renowned for its contemporary cuisine, with the Sun Terrace Restaurant offering a choice menu of locally sourced dishes in a relaxed environment, allowing guests to enjoy magnificent sea views across the bay. Its afternoon tea combinations include several of varieties of infused teas coupled with tiered selections of heavenly treats.
2018 promises to be one of the hotel’s busiest years to date, with more than 40 major events at the venue, from music sessions in The Rotunda Bar and themed murder mystery nights to the increasingly popular Seafood Festival in July and the award winning Vintage by the Sea Festival in September. The hotel will also be holding its first ever Gin Festival in June.
The Midland continues to be a shining beacon of regeneration for Morecambe and the record number of events this year reflects the hotel’s modern success and growth. For further information about The Midland, or to book a stay, visit englishlakes.co.uk
