Annies came into existence due to the owner’s passion for tea, Coronation Street actor Jennie Mcalpine and her partner Chris Farr, set up the St Anns Square establishment with the aim of serving an afternoon tea based on the the Buckingham Palace garden party afternoon tea.

San Carlo Gran Café, Selfridges

The San Carlo group have established themslves as name that is recognisable for Italian dining in Manchester, they have a number of locations in the city, inclusing their flagship restaurant on King Street. The Gran Café on the lower ground floor of Selfridges in Exchange Square has an afternoon tea menu that offers the Italian touch.

Grafene is creating a buzz in Manchester for its fine dining offering, but it also has an afternoon tea menu in its repertoire. The Afternoon tea contains delights such as amaretto cream tartlet, almond financier and chocolate ganache macaroon among its sweets.

Harvey Nichols is a good destination for foodies with the impressive food market and wineshop, the Second Floor Brasserie is a popular dining destination and that includes their afternoon tea. Sandwiches include pastrami and cornichon, Goat’s cheese and red onion wrap and chicken liver pâté with crostini; they don’t have a set menu for sweets but have a good selection of specials everyday.

Grand Pacific’s High Tea will have your tastbuds tingling as they have added an Asian twist. Located in what was once the city’s banking district, the King Street Townhouse is perfectly placed for those exploring the high end shops on King Street and Deansgate. Savouries include finger sandwiches filled with smoked salmon, egg, chicken, cream cheese and cucumber and a selection of daily specials for the sweets. They also have a Gentlemen’s Afternon Tea with canapé-style bites that include: fish & chip skewer, chicken and leek pie and homemade scotch egg.
