Afternoon tea has been a popular British tradition since the early nineteenth century. Going out for your tea has had a different meaning altogether for Liverpudlians over the years. That’s all set to change with an influx of afternoon teas on offer in the city, we pick six of the best.

Cuthbert’s Bakehouse

This bakehouse started at home, where it would supply delicious cakes to close family and friends. Owners, Matthew and Elaine Price are well travelled, having spent time in America, Amsterdam and Asia, helping them to create a menu with international influences. Enjoy a fusion of traditional and modern baking with an afternoon tea from Cuthbert’s, served on vintage china their locally sourced loose leaf teas perfectly complement the afternoon delight.

Baltic Social

Located in the heart of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, Baltic Social is a watering hole for good drinks, food and probably the last place you might expect to find serving afternoon tea. This is an alternative to the traditional British scones, cakes and finger sandwiches. The ‘Punk afternoon tea’ at Baltic social is as quirky as one might expect, served with mini burgers, hotdogs, spiced fries, onion rings, pretzels, chocolate brownies and a tea pot of gin, rum, vodka cocktail or beer.

The London Carriage Works

The London Carriage Works serves award winning British food with a contemporary twist. It found its name during renovation works on the building where builders discovered that it has previously been a coach & carriage company of the same name built in 1866. Chefs incorporate local, fresh produce into every meal making the end product a real treat. Their afternoon tea is a light lunch complete with delicate sandwiches, lightly loaf baked cakes, warm scones, fresh berries and clotted cream.

Titanic Hotel

Afternoon tea should always be taken in stylish surroundings, and the Titanic Hotel is one of Liverpool's most glamorous locations. Enjoy the views over the docks and if you feel like treating yourself even further, there's a Laurent Perrier upgrade to their traditional offering.

Oh Me Oh My

A quirky afternoon tea waits at Oh Me Oh My on Water Street. Serving up ‘Parisian Afternoon tea’ with a selection of finger sandwiches, sweet treats and unlimited tea, this tearoom won’t disappoint. Set in the stunning West Africa House this tearoom is full of Victorian character and Liverpudlian heritage. Oh Me Oh My goes the extra mile, often providing live acoustic music to decorate your experience.
