Lancahire has always had a proud history of pie making and pie munching, here’s a selecion of some of the best in the county

Shirley’s Pies
Shirley credits her success to her simple recipes, good ingredients including Pilling potatoes and eggs as well as cheese from Dewlay.
Highlights from her extensive menu include Steak and kidney made with chunks of British beef steak with lambs kidney slowly cooked in a rich beef gravy and Cheese, onion and potato made with Dewlay mature cheddar cheese with Pilling potatoes, onions and butter

The Highwayman
The Highwayman is one of five establishments in the stable of of Nigel Haworth’s The Ribble Valley Inns, it has gone strength to strength following a full refurbishment in June 2014.
They have a selection of seasonal pies on the menu including a chicken leg and ham pie, potato and onion pie, vegetarian shepherd’s pie and a speciality fish pie.

Halls Bakery
Founded more than eighty years by Joseph Hall, the company is still supplying proper pies to the folk of Chorley, but now much further afield too, with the introduction of delivery vans

Hollands Pies
The iconic Lancashire bakers have been making pies for over 160 years, family favourites include Steak and Kidney, Chicken and Mushroom and the Meat Pie.
If you’ve grown up in Lancashire it’s highly likely you have eaten a Hollands pie at your local chippy. there are legends of an accompaniment called ‘pea wet’ in Wigan, which is an acquired taste to say the least.

SD Berry
Berry's meat and potato pies have been a popular lunchtime meal for the people in the St Matthews area of Preston for generations.
Large queues form every weekday at 11.30 when the first batches leave the ovens, get there early though, when they are gone, they are gone.

Assheton Arms
One of the seven establishments in the multi award winning Seafood Pub Company it’s fairly obvious they would have a cracking fish pie on the menu.

The Parkers Arms
Located in the beautiful Forest of Bowland, The Parkers Arms has won national acclaim and is famous for their pie of the day encased in hand raised, hot water crust pastry.
Past fillings have included Bowland game and saltmarsh hogget; Jay Rayner had the venison and ground pork version on a recent visit.
