10 Liverpool restaurants that you should visit

Sirloin at Fazenda

Whether you’re at the football or the Grand National, updating your wardrobe at Liverpool ONE or taking in some Beatles nostalgia, Liverpool has something for everyone in the food stakes.

Spire Spire

Spire, Church Road, Wavertree

Winner of the Liverpool Restaurant of the year the 2014 Cheshire Life and Lancashire Life Food an Drink Awards. Matt Locke, former head chef at the acclaimed London Carriageworks opened this delightful and deservedly popular neighbourhood restaurant in 2006 and it became an immediate hit, winning many coveted awards over the last eight years. The décor is chic, contemporary and unfussy, attention to detail admirable; modern British cooking using excellent ingredients is top notch and the wine list is very well chosen.

Hanover Street Social Hanover Street Social

Hanover Street Social, Hanover Street

This Good Food and Michelin Guide listed brasserie and bar epitomises the new face of Liverpool - big, bold, brash, confident and ambitious. Founded by the successful team at Salt House Tapas, it’s an all-day operation from breakfast ‘til late, but the quality of the fare never falters from the porridge in the morning to the eclectic menu of modern British and European classics served by friendly staff in a vibrant ambience.

Panoramic 34 Panoramic 34

Panoramic 34, West Tower, Brook Street

Amazing 360 degree vistas are to be had over the rapidly changing skyline of Liverpool from, at 100m, one of the UK’s highest dining rooms. But this is more than a room with a view, romantic as that might be; Panoramic is a serious fine dining restaurant with a menu of contemporary European dishes featuring the best ingredients, skilfully handled by a demonstrably talented kitchen brigade.

Alma de Cuba Alma de Cuba

Alma de Cuba, Back Seel Street

Located in the former St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, this restaurant and bar captures the eclectic mix of Cuban, Hispanic and Latin American influences.

Puschka Puschka

Puschka, Rodney Street

Meticulously sourced ingredients from the Wirral, the Lake District and local suppliers underpin a short but daring and sophisticated menu reliant on a range of expertly executed cooking techniques. All this comes within a startling riot of fuchsia pink decor with bohemian floral cushions; the atmosphere is welcoming and the service friendly and knowledgeable.

Salt House Tapas Salt House Tapas

Salt House Tapas, Hanover Street

Owner Paddy Smith and the kitchen team have created a superb modern, urban tapas bar in the former Bishop of Liverpools residence in Liverpool One. The aim to recreate the authentic style and epicurean delights of a local neighbourhood tapas bar in Spain has been well and truly realised. Theres no Spanish spoken here - but the food does the talking and how! Ol.

The Monro The Monro

The Monro, Duke Street

Liverpools first gastropub, named after the James Monro, which plied the first scheduled sailing service from Liverpool to New York in 1817 is sited in a wonderfully historic listed building. In winter customers enjoy the warmth of a real open fire while in summer the courtyard offers peace and tranquillity to relish a wide selection of cask ales, great wines, and expertly prepared dishes using excellent local ingredients.

Lunya Lunya

Lunya, Liverpool One

Located in stylishly converted 18th century warehouse, the heart of the open kitchen is a wood-fired brick oven where traditional bread is baked and the exciting menu offers a range of authentic tapas and Iberian classics made from a combination of top-notch Spanish ingredients and the very best of local produce.

The Clove Hitch Bistro and Bar The Clove Hitch Bistro and Bar

The Clove Hitch Bistro and Bar, Hope Street

Located right in the heart of the University district, The Clove Hitch Bistro serves excellent fresh and locally sourced food. You can also pop downstairs to The 23 Club to try their array of cask ales and bourbons.

Fazenda Liverpool Fazenda Liverpool

Fazenda Liverpool

Inspired by the stylish high-end restaurants found in Brazil’s dynamic cosmopolitan cities, Fazenda is a carnivore’s dream. The range of 15 different cuts of beef, chicken, lamb and pork can be handpicked at your leisure, as ‘passadores’ (meat chefs) offer continuous tableside service.

Not quite Liverpool, but well worth the trip across the Mersey to the Wirral

Fraiche, Oxton

The acclaimed combination of fantastic culinary invention and dazzling skill in the kitchen has kept Restaurant Fraiche at the top of the fine dining tree for a decade and deservedly retained a Michelin star almost from the word go. Chef-patron Marc Wilkinson, who works his magic virtually single handed, admits he’s ‘driven’ - but his passion produces truly spectacular results. No wonder a six month wait for a table is not uncommon.

Hillbark Hotel, Frankby

This stately, half-timbered house with a plethora of stunning period features is the only hotel in Merseyside boasting five AA stars - and with just 18 beautiful rooms, the smallest in the country to do so. Add to that the acquisition of a coveted third AA Rosette for its restaurant, The Dining Room at the Hillbark has seasonal menus from head chef, Rich Collingwood.
