Venue

Artisan is the perfect dining destination for the cool kids on the block. Think 80’s, Jean-Michel Basquiat in downtown New York coupled with accents of 18th Century charm. The bar is curiously low comprising of antique tables topped with fresh fruit waiting to be turned into a signature cocktail. The interior is a living art gallery with works from artists such as Ilona Szalay hanging in the loft-style restaurant, and available to be purchased.

Menu

Back to basics cooking prepared on the fire: choose from succulent burgers, fish and pizzas. To start we opted for the cCoconut prawn skewers with sweet chilli sauce (£7.50) and crisp flatbread with mozzarella and garlic (£5). Both were delightful and sauces were served in dried banana leaf parcels which I thought was a nice touch. For mains I chose the salt and pepper chicken burger (£11), while my partner decided on oven baked seabass (£18) with crinkle cut fries (£3.50). The wood fire added a homestylemade touch to the food which complemented the restaurant’s overall atmosphere. For dessert we went for a lighter option as the mains had been so generous, we both chose the spiced pineapple skewers served with coconut cream (£5.25). This was a great way to finish an already impressive meal.

Service

Pleasant, helpful and relaxed .

Cost

The above with two Artisan artisan signature cocktails adds up to around £70 for the two of us. Artisan is a conversation starter for a date with great food to match.
