With the Christmas season just around the corner, what better way to soak up the magic by perusing the sumptuous stalls that fill our streets this time of year?
Whether you’re lightly browsing or stopping for a hot, spiced apple cider to ease the chill, your local Christmas market is always a place you can rely on for merriment and festive cheer.

Winter Market at Holker Hall and Gardens
Holker Hall will be holding a Winter Market in November, where you can shop an array of wintery produce from local farms and artisan gifts from over 50 stalls. This is your chance to purchase gifts, enjoy live music and fantastic food and drink as well as shop Christmas decorations from fantastic local retailers.

Ulverston’s Dickensian Christmas Market and Festival
The Ulverston Dickensian Christmas Market and Festival returns once again bringing delightful host of events packed full of festivity. It attracts thousands of visitors to the traditional market town where they can soak up the atmosphere of a time gone by. Among a variety of events and entertainment, there will be costume competitions, horse drawn carriages and a Christmas market with unusual gifts and festive food.

Manchester Christmas markets
It’s one of the biggest and most exciting Christmas markets in the North West; Manchester will come alive once again in fantastic festive spirit this November. Christmassy delights will be available from various markets set up around the glittering city, alongside a selection of great food, drink and entertainment.

Chester Christmas Market
Chester will be transformed into a rustic festive town with 70 traditionally wooden chalets cascading around a dazzling 40ft Christmas tree. Traders will be presenting treats, quality local and regional products and lovely stocking fillers. Enjoy a customary mulled wine and hot food in the bubbling atmosphere of the Chester’s Christmas market.

Knutsford Christmas Market
A weekend filled with spellbinding celebrations as Knutsford welcomes the Christmas season. The annual Christmas market returns to the streets of the town centre. Don’t miss the popular Christmas light switch on with a local celebrity and a very special parade with Santa and his Reindeers.

Christmas Floral Extravaganza
Each room will be decorated by students from local floristry colleges and stores in traditional style using hundreds of fresh flowers and foliage from Arley Gardens. Throughout the week different events will take place including Carl Wilde’s floral demonstration on the 8th December and a ‘Candlelight and Carols’ evening where carolers will fill the rooms with the spirit of Christmas as you explore the decorated rooms.

Set in Millennium square, the Leeds Market is one of the most established German -style markets in the UK. It has more than 40 wooden chalet stalls selling everything from handcrafted toys to gingerbread and candied fruits. There is also a traditional Christmas carousel as well as a selection of children’s rides and attractions. Opening times are 10.30am to 9.30pm from Monday-Saturday and 10.30am to 7.30pm on Sundays.

St Nicholas Fayre, York
Thousands of people head for the St Nicholas Fayre in York every year to shop for gifts, crafts, sweets and treats some of the very best in local farm produce as well as international produce from France and Germany.

Sheffield Christmas Market
This is a market of traditional wooden cabins which offer a huge choice of seasonal gifts, treats and food. Santa has his very own Lapland cabin. The market is open daily 10am-6pm (8pm Wednesdays) until Christmas Eve.
Harrogate Christmas Market
Head for the Stray in the town’s Montpellier Quarter for this four-day festive market for some of the finest Christmas shopping at something like 190 stalls selling everything from cheeses and chutneys to handmade gifts and Christmas decorations. Visit Santa’s Grotto, the children’s funfair and enjoy the musical entertainment. The market is open 10am-8pm Thursday-Saturday and 10am-5pm Sunday.
Chatsworth Christmas Market
Seasonal entertainment from brass bands and string quartets will set the scene on the slope leading up to the Stables at Chatsworth House, whilst visitors browse over 100 stalls selling handmade crafts, home accessories, jewellery, food and clothes. If all that shopping leaves you with an appetite, you can enjoy a glass of mulled wine, cider or German beer or sample gourmet burgers, hotdogs, pancakes, churros, fudge and chocolate.

Bakewell Christmas Market
This ‘quintessentially English Christmas market’ includes traders from the town’s popular Monday market, alongside stalls selling a delicious choice of speciality festive foods and wines from the Peak District. Discover inspirational gift ideas at the craft and gift fair in the Medway and Brigade Halls, or browse the arts and crafts market in the Town Hall, where work from local designers and makers will be on display. Entertainment including street theatre, live music from Bakewell Silver Band and seasonal songs from St Anselm’s School Choir will help visitors get into the festive spirit and a highlight on Sunday will be a visit from Santa’s reindeers.
