Revealed: the most popular postcodes in Lancashire

Royal Mail analysed over a million UK redirection applications from the last 12 months to reveal the nation’s home moving habits. We look at some of the movers and shakers in Lancashire.

Downham in the Ribble Valley Downham in the Ribble Valley

Ribble Valley

BB7

The BB7 postcode covers the Ribble Valley, and with town and villages such as Clitheroe, Downham, Bolton-by-Bowland, Little Mitton, and Whalley it’s safe to say that it is probably one of the most desirable postcodes in the county.

There were 346 postcode relocations into BB7 compared to 237 out which indicates a demand that is keeping property prices relatively stable.

Clifton Street in Lytham Clifton Street in Lytham

Lytham St Annes

FY8

There were 555 relocations into Lytham St Annes last year compared to 453 out, which suggests that the seaside town as a property location is as popular as ever.

The average distance moved into the FY8 postcode from outside is very high at over 60 miles which could mean that people from far afield are moving to Lytham for a quieter seaside life.

Busy shopping area in Lancaster Busy shopping area in Lancaster

Lancaster

LA1, LA2

The LA1 and LA2 postcodes cover areas such as Lancaster city centre, Caton, Hest Bank and Glasson Dock. There were 618 relocations into the postcodes last year compared to 510 that left.

The average moving distance is between 50-60 miles. Are people moving north to be closer to the Lake District? Or are they moving further south as they are being priced out of the Lake District property market?

St Michael & All Angels Church and Town Road in Croston. St Michael & All Angels Church and Town Road in Croston.

South Ribble

PR25, PR26

South Ribble recently gained top spot in Channel 4’s The UK’s Best Place to Live. With locations such as Cuerden and Croston falling under that area it’s easy to see why they thought so highly of it.

However, looking at last year’s figures, there were only around 400 relocations combined to the PR25 and PR26 postcodes, and the average moving distance was relatively low at 30 miles. It could be this area was Lancashire’s hidden property secret, but it could be about to change with its new found fame.

Southport

PR9

Southport was another seaside location that saw over 500 relocations last year. With locations such as Ainsdale and Birkdale covered by the PR9 postcode it’s easy to see why more people are moving into the area than out.

The average distance for moving into the area 46.87 miles which suggests that there is a lot of movement from Lancashire as well as other parts of Merseyside.
