Huntley's farm shop was established in 2001 but the Cowpe family have been working the land around the Samlesbury area for an amazing 800 years.

Today, the business is recognised locally, regionally and nationally as a must-visit place, especially if you have a sweet tooth.

The main farm shop has more than doubled its range and now stocks jams, cakes, preserves, fresh coffee, pickles and and meat, all locally produced and packed with flavour. The shop is probably most famous for its award-winning homemade ice cream. They have more than 80 varieties on offer from traditional flavours such as mint choc chip to more adventurous combinations like melon and ginger.

It boasts a restaurant, which is open daily and it is getting bigger with an extension due to open in mid March. You can also sample an a la carte menu at the restaurant on a Friday or Saturday nights, but booking is essential.

The restaurant extension is just phase one in owner Eddie Cowpe's plans for expansion at the site just off of the A59 between Preston and Clitheroe. Work on phase two, which will see the introduction of a food hall, clothing outlet and on-site bakery, is imminent.

Huntley's was one of the few positives to come from the foot and mouth crisis. Owner and managing director Eddie Cowpe decided he had to supplement the arable and livestock by building the farm shop to sell milk, homemade ice cream and meat directly to the public. In six years it has won a number of awards as well as being celebrated as one of Rick Stein's Food Heroes.
