Lancashire’s favourite resort is a treasure trove of photo opportunities.

Blackpool is one the great seaside resorts. Many people may have strong views on the Lancashire town, but for many of us who have grown up in the North West, our childhood would have consisted of at least one summer holiday trip to the tower.

Yes, it may have seen better days but there is still a large amount of historic architecture for the photographer to capture when visiting the town. Firstly, of course there’s the iconic Blackpool Tower, the first thing to tick off when taking photos here. The good news is that the tower has now shorn its scaffolding which was in place for a number of years. While this was necessary for extensive renovation to the building, it was a major bugbear for photographers as it did interfere with the aesthetic of the iconic landmark.

Add to this, the three piers, the Big One, the Comedy Carpet and the Winter Gardens, you will see that there is plenty of subject matter for the photographer to keep themselves occupied.

As the summer ends, the potential for good photography doesn’t have to either. The Blackpool Illuminations were set up in 1879 to extend the tourist season for the town which relied so much on its summer business. The festival runs from late August until early November and remains as popular as ever. The display stretches six miles along the Promenade and uses over million bulbs.
