Dog lovers don’t have to leave their precious pooches in kennels – Lancashire and the Lakes have many top quality hotels that welcome four-legged guests. Jessica Ward reports

Broadoaks Country House, Windermere

This award-winning 19th century hotel, winner of several accolades, combines period furniture with modern elegance, creating a personalised touch to each bedroom. All three garden suites and their main suite the ‘Boudoir’ are dog-friendly, allowing you and your best friend to enjoy your stay together. The dog loving owner and Molly, the house cockapoo, will welcome you with a personal selection of treats and a copy of the ‘4 paws menu’.

The Sun Inn, Kirkby Lonsdale

This award-winning 17th century inn has recently been shortlisted in the new Dog-Friendly Business of the Year category 2016. It has a selection of rooms that are canine friendly, including standard, superior and deluxe and your dog will be welcomed with a complimentary ‘pooch pack’ including a towel, bowl, a treat and a trail map. After enjoying the surrounding scenery a ‘dog and boot’ shower is available outside. Dog sitting and dog walking facilities are also available close by.

Holbeck Ghyll Hotel, Windermere

This famous Lakeland hotel offers pet-friendly rooms across their hotel with grounds for the pups to play in. Well-behaved dogs are welcomed with a package of essentials, including treats and a list of popular nearby walks. Nearby pubs and cafes also accommodate owners and their dogs, for a quick breakfast or refreshments after exploring the region. Longlands Hotel, Carnforth

The Inn on The Square, Keswick

Situated in the centre of Keswick, the Inn is close by to all of your needs including shops and Derwentwater is a ten minute walk away for you and your dog. Assheton Arms, Downham

This is a Lancashire countryside gem in the unspoilt village of Downham, where there’s not a double yellow line, a satellite dish or a road sign to be seen. Opposite the church, you’ll find the Assheton Arms, a recent winner of Lancashire Life dining pub of the year. As well as having an excellent restaurant and good beer, it now boasts some lovely bedrooms some of which are available to well-behaved dogs.
