Is Manchester is the second city of the UK? A poll commissioned by the Birmingham Mail found the northern city ranked slightly above its Midlands rival by 38% to 36%.

In this day and age you would be unwise to believe anything an opinion poll tells you, but we’d go further and say that Manchester can lay claim to be THE best city in the country.

From the ever-growing cultural hub of the Northern Quarter to the glitz and glamour of Spinningfields, Manchester has transformed itself in a modern cosmopolitan metropolis.

While the city still awaits a Michelin star establishment, there are plenty of top quality restaurants in Manchester, and it also has two of the richest football clubs in the world.

Every famous city has a collection of famous landmarks and Manchester is no exception, some of the impressive older buildings are a consequence of the massive amount of wealth that poured into the city during the industrial revolution. While, some of he more modern edifices have sprung up in the past two decades after a massive regeneration of the city centre after a terrorist attack in the 1990’s.

Most of you have visited Manchester at some point in your life, but how many local landmarks can you name?

Share and challenge your friends to beat your score.
