RSPB Leighton Moss is a popular nature reserve set within the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is the largest reedbed in north-west England. It is a great place to explore and discover some very special wildlife. Home to some unusual birds; bitterns, bearded tits and marsh harriers, as well as more familiar garden birds, ducks, and swans. You may see Britains largest land mammal, the red deer, and if youre lucky, an otter swimming across the pools.

You can visit nature trails with hides, look round the superb shop and enjoy a home-made meal in the award-winning caf. Pride is placed on sourcing high quality, fresh, local produce, which is organic wherever possible. 100% of the profits go to help nature, so your extra helping of pudding will really be helping! Get 10% discount in the caf if you travel by public transport or by bike.

Directions

The reserve is 4 miles/6 km north of Carnforth. From theM6 take J35, then follow the A6 north (signposted Milnthorpe) and brown tourist signs. 250 metres from Silverdale station.

Opening Times

9.30 am-5 pm (4.30 pm Dec and Jan). Closed Christmas Day.
