Test your county credentials in this picture based quiz.

Lancastrians celebrate Lancashire Day on the 27th of November to mark the date in 1295 when the county’s first elected representatives were summoned by King Edward I to become Members of Parliament at Westminster.

Although we have a healthy rivalry with our friends across in Yorkshire, it is one based on friendship and very often on a shared history. The Pennines that divide the counties is home to some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole of the UK.

From a social history perspective, both counties were instrumental in the Industrial Revolution which created the wealth that allowed Great Britain to establish itself as a superpower across the globe. The best illustration of this is the Leeds-Liverpool Canal which opened trade routes across the north of England and joined the major cities and towns of both Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Our seaside resorts were established to provide entertainment and clean sea air to the working class populations looking for a summer break from everyday life. Over here we have Blackpool and Southport and over on the east coast there are places like Whitby and Scarborough.

We both love our food as well, while our friends in the white rose county have the Yorkshire Pudding, we have the famous Bury black pudding over here in Lancashire. We won’t get into an argument into who serves the best chippy tea, but we appreciate that we have a love of the same thing in both counties.

This quiz shows how much we have in common with our northern comrades, but also shows our regional differences.

So how did you fare in our test? Did you confirm your Lancashire credentials? Or are you thinking of going into hiding into Yorkshire? If your results came up as Yorkshire, you may want to visit our sister website, Yorkshire Life.

Share and challenge your friends to see if they are as Yorkshire as you are.
