The hunt is on for the undiscovered stars of the art world so this could be the year when you make a name for yourself?

The 2019 Lancashire Life Landscape Artist of the Year competition is now open for entries and we are delighted that once again Hepplestone Fine Art are the sponsors.

This will be our third contest and every year the entries increase in volume and in quality. Lancashire and the Lake District has a rich tradition of landscape art – country and now urban – so we are hoping to tap into that wealth of talent.

Each year has attracted well over 70 entries and the judges confirmed they had a real struggle to narrow it down to three finalists.

The winner will be revealed at the Hepplestone Fine Art gallery in Heskin Shopping Village later this year.

The award winning gallery has a growing reputation for nurturing artists from the north west and several have gone on to establish successful careers in the art world after working with Heppleston Fine Art.

Giles Hepplestone, whose family established the gallery, said: ‘We are very excited to see this year’s entries. The quality of the last two competitions exceeded our hopes in terms of quality and quantity and last year we saw a new development in the arrival of urban landscapes.

‘We love the traditional scenes but this urban imagery added another dimension to the competition, giving it a little more edge and certainly making it more difficult to judge. I hope we see more this year.

‘There has been a real resurgence in the art scene in this part of the country and the popularity of our artists has been gaining momentum regionally and across the UK.

‘This competition helps to highlight artists who might not have been known by everyone so it really does help them raise their profile.’

The winner will receive a cheque for £250 and all three finalists will have their work features in a Lancashire Life profile.

Simply send good quality jpeg images of up to three of your works along with the title, the medium, where it depicts and a brief biography of yourself. Email this material to art@lancashirelife.co.uk with Art Competition in the subject window.

The closing date is May 17, 2019. The finalists will be named in the first available issues after the judges have agreed the shortlist and they will be invited to hang their work at Hepplestone Fine Art when we will be announcing the winner. The shortlisted artists will be featured in Lancashire Life.
