"Preparation for life" is more than just a slogan at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Blackburn: it neatly summarises what the school offers to boys and girls from across Lancashire. Find out more here...
Ever since its foundation in 1509 it has been at the forefront of educational development with a curriculum that includes subjects such as Ethics and Philosophy and Complimentary Studies which add to the complete education that it has become known for.
Queen Elizabeths Grammar School is one of the leading independent schools in Lancashire situated in the Blackburn, often referred to as the gateway to the Ribble Valley.
Thanks to the foresight of staff and governors and through careful investment over the years, pupils at Queen Elizabeths benefit from excellent facilities. These continue to be enhanced so as to provide a pleasant and effective environmentfor learning and for pupils topursue sporting and other leisure activities.
The latest majorimprovement, formally opened in March 2011 by Gordon Taylor, Chief Executive of the Professional Footballers Association, was the extension to the Sports Hall at the Lammack Playing Fields, which offers additional changing facilities for teams and officials, as well as a kitchen and teaching room, and a sensory room which is also used by Blackburn Community Sports Club, whose aims are to promote multi-sports opportunities for both able-bodied and disabled people within the community.
We are also due to open a new Nursery School at Brooklands House, situated on our main site. With effect from September 2012, we will be lowering the admissions age to children from 2 years and will start to admit babies from January 2013. By extending our education provision, Queen Elizabeths will be able to offer high quality education for children from 3 months to 18 years old to Blackburn, and a wide catchment area beyond.
Benefiting from small class sizes, excellent pastoral care and good standards of discipline, pupils thrive in a safe, caring environment from Nursery to the Sixth Form, forming stable and enduring friendships which continue well beyond school.
At Queen Elizabeths we are strongly committed to co-education, which we believe enables young people to grow up together in a natural environment that prepares them for University and employment, in both of which contexts they will work with the opposite sex.
A personal visit to the school is the best way to help you and your child make a decision about which school is the best option for you. You can come and see how we work, and get a flavour of the enthusiasm for learning that our pupils have, both inside and outside the classroom.
Parents are welcome to telephone to arrange to visit us at any time. As always, we will seriously consider applications at any entry point. If you are considering Queen Elizabeths for your son or daughter, you can be assured of a warm welcome whenever you choose to visit.
