The General Burgoyne, Great Urswick, Ulverston
This Furness pub has already made an impression in Lancashire north of the sands offering a warm welcome and excellent food created by Landlord and head chef Craig Sherrington. Freshly prepared and home cooked produce can be sampled in the Orangery Restaurant or one of the cosy pub bars. The General Burgoyne has already racked up several well-deserved awards.
Castle Dairy, Kendal
This establishment is not only unusual because of its location in a Grade I listed building in Kendal. It is also staffed by Kendal College apprentices and watched over by highly experienced chef Robert Stacey. Any lack of experience is swept away by the fine dining which gets rave reviews.
The Hare and Hounds, Bowland Bridge, near Grange-over-Sands
Inspired seasonal cooking have helped to secure this 17th century inn recommendations in everything from the Michelin good pub book to the Alistair Sawdays guide. The combination of log fires, old pine and slate floors make this a wonderful rural bolthole.
