H. Greaves and Son started life in Lancashire. Harry Greaves was a farmer’s son and, as the youngest of four brothers, he had no choice but to find another way to earning a living.
He started his life as a butcher in Wigan and opened his own shop in Upholland in the mid 1930s. The shop was closed during the Second World War when Harry served in the army in India.
On his return he worked hard to build up his business again in the tough conditions when meat was rationed. His son, Anthony, joined his father when he left school in 1958. This traditional business was developed and extended by Anthony and is now run by Harry’s grandchildren, Clare, Robert and Christopher.
H. Greaves & Son is now one of the North West leading suppliers of high quality meat and meat products to both the wholesale trade and retail customers. They have developed an enviable reputation and a highly loyal customer base.
Many leading restaurants, hotels and catering establishments in Lancashire, Cheshire, Manchester and Liverpool and further afield in London are among their valued customers.
The aim of the company is to provide customers with top quality produce and a first class service, ensuring that the highest standards are attained from receiving the carcass, through cutting and packing to delivery.
The source and provenance of products are of the utmost importance. Most of the meat is purchased from the same local farmers and producers which they have used for many years. This gives them consistently high quality and ensures that they supply only the best.
An extensive range of Beef, Lamb, Pork and Poultry are available as well as an array of home- made products such as a wide range of sausages, burgers, black puddings, kebabs, brezola and pancetta. Specialist meats, such as Salt March Lamb and Rare Breed Cattle and Pigs, are sourced from Cumbria.
