Robinsons Brewery - A strong northern heritage

With an impressive lineage stretching from the 1838 when William Robinson purchased the Unicorn Inn in Stockport, Robinsons Brewery has a strong heritage both in brewing and pub tenancy.

With an impressive lineage stretching from the 1838 when William Robinson purchased the Unicorn Inn in Stockport, Robinsons Brewery has a strong heritage both in brewing and pub tenancy.

The passion and dedication of William Robinson and his descendents has seen Robinsons evolve into one of the UK’s largest family brewers, with 380 pubs across Cumbria, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Derbyshire and North Wales.

2011 is an exciting time, with the 5th and 6th generations of Robinson family keen to build upon the legacy of Robinsons Brewery.  They have an eye on the future and are driving the brewery, brands and pubs forward, at pace.  Within the industry we are often referred to as the sleeping giant of regional brewing: the sleeping giant is now awakening!

Work has begun on our new state of the art brew-house which will bring greater flexibility to our brewing process which means we will be able to brew smaller more experimental batches.  In essence this gives us the scope to act more ‘micro brewery’ whilst retaining the benefits of being a regional brewer.  This shift in brewing capability is the launch pad for a new approach to the way we develop and market our brands.

Traditionally Unicorn has been our flagship brand, supported by a range of regionally inspired ales including those brewed to original recipes by Hartley’s Brewery of Cumbria (Cumbria Way, XB and XB Gold), Wards Brewing Company of Sheffield (Wards Best Bitter), and Oldham Brewery Company (OB). Hatters, Old Stockport and Double Hop are classic Robinsons’ ales available throughout the estate.  Our seasonal ales have highlighted the year in two monthly intervals:  Dizzy Blonde’s immense popularity saw its promotion to our core range with year round availability.

Our award winning brand is Old Tom, with 25 awards in 25 years, including Worlds Best Ale.  The Old Tom family consists of the traditional recipe, chocolate and ginger. It is available in cask but is mainly bottle led (bottled along with Unicorn Ale at our bottling plant). Old Tom can be purchased on our Web site www.frederic-robinson.co.uk

Robinsons Brewery is the main sponsor for the 2014-2015 Lancashire Life and Cheshire Life Food and Drink Awards
