Private dining takes on a new element at the chic award-winning King Street Townhouse in Manchester, writes Louise Allen-Taylor

Dinner and movie? If you want to do that in rather splendid style, and with a few friends, then King Street Townhouse, Manchester’s ‘baby grand’ hotel has it covered.

A new dining and cinema area, The Cellars, has been opened at the bank-turned-hotel in Booth Street, taking advantage of the cosy ambience of the listed building’s cellar, with its vaulted brick ceiling. Alongside the Wine Cellar private dining area is The Screening Room, a 20-seater luxury cinema.

The private dining room accommodates up to 14 guests for a five-course tasting menu, from which I very much enjoyed scallops with broad bean purée and a delicious chicken skin tuile, halibut with braised fennel and saffron sauce, roasted Goosnargh duck breast with plum sauce and a mojito pudding, featuring frozen lime parfait, mint macaroon and rum jelly.

There’s a flight of matching wines and the option to have the vastly knowledgeable and charming sommelier George Bergier talk you through those elegant tipples.
