Local hero PC Bill Barker was remembered by many when the ‘Always Remember Me’ rose was presented by north west grower C & K Jones, as a tribute to him. His widow, Hazel, was among the guests who commemorated his bravery in the 2009 Cumbrian floods.

The event was made even better by the glorious weather, and it attracted 23,000 guests over the three days.

Lord and Lady Cavendish hosted the colourful event and the standard of exhibitors was said to be more impressive than ever. Lord Cavendish said: ‘It is always wonderful to see how much time and effort our exhibitors and show gardens invest in coming to Holker.’

To top it off, a new garden theatre was introduced this year. This latest feature housed a busy schedule of speakers and was considered one of the main highlights of the festival.
