David McKiddie’s painting recalls happy childhood memories of holidays in Blackpool. Barbara Waite reports
Like many other families in Lancashire, David McKiddie made the annual pilgrimage from his home in Manchester to Blackpool for Wakes Week. As a child he remembers spending time on the beach and more especially the iconic piers.
It’s a place which still holds a great deal of fascination for him. ‘I remember particularly looking at the sea below, through the spaces between the planks that floored the pier,’ he said. ‘It has been preserved as I first knew it in the early 40s and was an obvious choice for a painting in tribute to the most famous seaside resort in the country.’
David started oil painting in earnest about 20 years ago, most of his work features the Lancashire landscape in all its beauty, character and variety. His fluent, fresh paintings are mostly completed in situ – the Lancashire weather permitting!
He belongs to New Longton Art Society and has just taken part in its Summer Exhibition, but you can see more of his work at its Fine Art Fair in November. He was also a participant in Art and Garden at Salmesbury Bottoms
This painting is 10” x 8” and his work sells from £200 upwards. You can also see David’s work at Arteology, West End Buildings, Albert Road, Colne. email@example.com or call 01282 861011
