If you want a fresh, new look to your kitchen but thought the only option was to replace your tired-looking units, you should consider taking expert advice on how to restore not replace the hub of the home.

Restoring is cheaper than replacing

Having your kitchen cabinets hand-painted with the right paint can be a cost effective and efficient way to give your kitchen a full makeover. It's a good way of giving a much needed lift to an existing or tired-looking space.

"You may not realise how much you could save by restoring your kitchen rather than replacing it," explains Valerie. "There's often no need to replace your entire kitchen even if you feel it's seen better days."

Whether your kitchen is dark oak, orange pine, MDF, maple, clear lacquered, varnished, waxed or laminated, they can be stunningly transformed with a handpainted finish.

"If you're preparing to put your home on the market then this could work well for you," says Valerie.

Keep on cooking while the work gets underway

Losing the use of one of the hardest working spaces in the home for even a day can cause chaos to your family's routine. Choosing a makeover instead of a complete refit should be much less disruptive. Valerie Wray Interiors organise the work around family life and all painting is done off-site. "Your kitchen area will remain functional during the work," says Valerie. "All you'll be missing is your cupboard doors while we paint."

A more sustainable option

Restoring not replacing is in itself a more sustainable way to approach a kitchen makeover but add in some environmentally friendly paint and your redecoration is a good option all round. Valerie Wray Interiors use durable and hard-wearing paint so you won't need to worry about choosing colours again for a few years.

"You should always hire a professional to do the painting. Decorating a kitchen is a large job and if you use the wrong paint or primer it can look messy. We can paint a range of kitchens from handmade wooden kitchens to high street kitchens and the end result is always stunning," said Valerie.
