Archant

In November 1914, records show, The Ormskirk Territorials marched off to war.

Despite the heavy rain, they left The Drill Hall in excellent spirits, marching through the streets, singing patriotic songs whilst one of their number accompanied them on a mouth organ. At the station they were met by a large number of friends, who had assembled to give them a hearty send-off. They thought it would all be over by Christmas... and many would never return.

One hundred years later, The Drill Hall is better known as The Civic Hall in Southport Road. There, on November 8th, Ormskirk Theatre Company are proud to present Remember, an evening of music, film and prose commemorating those men who left Ormskirk to fight in 1914 and all those who have followed in their footsteps in the 100 years since.

The concert, which includes local history, photographs and biographies has twice been nominated as Best Revue in the North West of England by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association and has been performed annually since 2010. This year’s performance will be the last at Ormskirk Civic Hall. The cast includes June Dowd, Heather Gawne, Gary Simpson, Dave Smith, Charlotte Taylor, Simon Taylor and Alan Thompson.

Tickets, price £10/£8 are on sale now at Disraeli’s, Church Street, Ormskirk, from the OTC at 01695 577393 or online at www.ormskirktheatrecompany.co.uk
