The railway is set in a beautiful ornamental park which has other amenities including a putting green, a boating lake, a paddling pool, a large sand pit and play area.

Construction of the railway began in 2001 with a small loop of the track. In 2005 the outer loop was completed taking passengers alongside the Italian Gardens and in 2013 the latest extension was completed taking another loop around the Beech Garden.

Our one Kilometre 71/4” gauge track takes you on a meandering journey from the station down through the trees, around the Beech Garden, up a gradient and past our sidings then down and alongside the Italian Gardens. From there, travelling again through the trees, we take you over our 100ft. long steel girder bridge, up another gradient, once more past our sidings before finally heading back into the station. Your overall journey takes approximately 7 minutes.

As you ride round you may see some of the wildlife that frequents the park. There are squirrels, ducks, geese and a variety of other wild birds. You may also catch a glimpse of the deer that visit the park.

We have a varied selection of locomotives, three of which are steam, for hauling our sit-astride carriages. We also have a purpose-built wheelchair/family coach. This coach will accept all types of wheelchairs and has additional seats for passengers. It is also suitable for parents with babies or with beam seat fitted a family or small party.

The railway is operated by Burnley & Pendle Miniature Railway Society and is a not-for-profit organization, whose members are all volunteers.

We are always looking for new members to help us to run, maintain and improve all aspects of the railway.

We particularly welcome people with engineering and mechanical skills although you don’t have to be qualified to become a member, just willing, enthusiastic and have a positive attitude.

If you are interested in joining us or would like further information please come along on any Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday, during our season from March to October, and speak to any member of our committee.

Opening Times

We operate on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank holidays from March to October from 12 noon until 4pm. The fare is £1 per person. Please see our website for further details of special events.
