More than 20,000 visitors attended the 21st Holker Garden Festival, near Cartmel, drawn by blue skies and sunshine. A spectacular show all round, with highlights including a record number of Gold awards in the Horticultural Marquee, six sensational show gardens, a craft tent and Victorian fairground for children, the Shire Horses and foodie heaven in the Cartmel Pop-Up Village. Food historian Ivan Day gave demonstrations and Tom Longton from Shepherds Barn, Quernmore, entertained young and old with his sheepdogs, Bruce and Meg, and a flock of 13 mischievous Indian Running Ducks.
Lord and Lady Cavendish were thrilled with this year’s festival, saying: ‘We were struck throughout by the happy atmosphere on the show ground. It gives us all at Holker a sense of satisfaction when we see people enjoying themselves - all the work and planning that goes into an event becomes worthwhile.’
