Our guide to what's happening and when this summer in Southport

Its one of the highlights of Southports social calendar and as Southport Flower Show returns this summer for its 83rd year, visitors can expect more than ever before.

Taking place between August 16th and 19th at Southports Victoria Park, this years theme will be cool, with professional and amateur gardeners and growers all reflecting the theme in their displays.

Gardeners Christine Walkden and Alys Fowler will be joining regular celebrity guests, patrons Sir Roddy Llewellyn, Professor David Bellamy and Professor Stefan Buczacki, touring the showground, giving advice and
tips and presenting some of the top trophies.

As well as the fantastic horticultural attractions and stunning floral arrangements, this years show will also boast the first North West Food Festival, complete with a host of well-known celebrity chefs and the launch of the North West Book Festival, featuring authors from all genres.

As well as more than a million blooms, spectacular displays, show gardens and exquisite furniture and plants to inspire gardeners theres plenty 201on the entertainment bill as well over the four day show.

The main arena will showcase acts including jousting medieval knights and free flying birds of prey as well as dog displays, while the bandstand line-up includes Morecambe Brass Band, the Fishermans Friend Jazz Band, Biddulph Male Voice Choir and performances from Southport Youth Drama Academy.

Ticket prices (frozen for the third year running) cost from just 16 per person (in advance, booking and postage fees apply) and are available online at www.southportflowershow.co.uk.
