Shirley Heather received a standing ovation when it was announced she was named 'Woman of Oldham' at the annual charity lunch at The White Hart Hotel in Lydgate.

Shirley Heather received a standing ovation when it was announced she was named Woman of Oldham at the annual charity lunch at The White Hart Hotel in Lydgate.


For once I am lost for words as I havent got a mixing bowl in front of me, she said referring to her cookery skills which she has used to raise thousands of pounds for charity, baking and giving demonstrations.


The award aims to recognise one of the towns many women who have either benefited or brought credit to the Oldham area through their tireless community work. This year was their 20th Anniversary and over the years more than 100,000 has been raised for various charities. This year it was for Dr Kershaws Hospice in Oldham.
