Lauren McQueen - Haydock Park’s Ladies Day Ambassador

Former Hollyoaks star Lauren McQueen talks exclusively about her role as Haydock Park’s Ladies Day Ambassador, her National Soap Award nomination and what’s next.
It's been a busy year for Lauren McQueen, who burst onto Hollyoaks two years ago as feisty but vulnerable Lily Drinkwell. Already this year, she's wrapped up her role with one of the show's most ground-breaking storylines around self-harm and sepsis, wrapped filming on the next series of Sky One drama Bulletproof and bagged herself a nomination for Best Actress at the National Soap Awards.
And while many stars would now be putting their feet up, Lauren is still keeping busy. 'Thanks to Hollyoaks, I'm so used to spending long hours on set that having lots of time to do exactly as I want is too much of an adjustment.
'Now I've finished filming Bulletproof, I'm keeping busy with acting classes and auditions galore,' she said, during a fashion photoshoot at Haydock Park Racecourse, for which Lauren is 2019 Ladies Day Ambassador.
'This year has already been amazing for me professionally and the Soap Award nomination truly was the icing on the cake, especially as it was for my exit storyline. However, I'm definitely looking to the future and I can't wait to see where my career is headed next.'
And while Liverpool-born Lauren is working towards her next role, she's putting gritty roles to one side and enjoying her rather more glamorous role for Haydock Park. 'I think the races is a fantastic day out whatever the occasion, but for me, the best part of the day is definitely all of the girly aspects of racing, especially as you can really push the boundaries and live out your style fantasies, particularly on Ladies Day,' Lauren says.
'I've loved modelling for Lancashire Life today, especially the pink suit which is so much bolder than I would normally choose. It's really pushed me to go all out for Ladies Day and I'll definitely be wearing a hat, which isn't something I've really gone for before.'
The only aspect of the day where Lauren advises choosing comfort over style is when it comes to footwear. 'My advice to all ladies attending a day at the races is to wear their comfiest heels and to give them a trial run before the occasion. You want to be able to enjoy the racing action, spending time with friends and cheering from the stands - not worrying about how much your feet are hurting!'
